Salman Khan's legal tangles have been written about a lot over the years, and
recently, his hit-and-run case from 2002 has taken up a major part of the headlines.
Things have recently taken a
serious turn for the actor when prosecution rested its case against
the actor on Thursday demanding that he should be convicted for culpable homicide not amounting to murder which attracts a jail sentence of 10 years.
Salman Khan's defence lawyer Srikant Shivade will begin his arguments today. While Salman has been excused from proceedings but his sister Alvira has been regularly attending court sessions.
The defence is expected to further the
case that Salman was neither drunk nor driving that fateful night when his car ran over some pavement dwellers, leaving one dead and four injured.
Now it finally seems that a verdict may be
passed by the judge on this long drawn out case.
The prosecution in the Salman Khan trial on Thursday rested its case against the Bollywood actor, demanding he be convicted for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, which attracts
a 10-year jail term.
Public prosecutor Pradeep Gharat who concluded his final arguments before Additional Sessions Judge D.W.
Deshpande, forcefully argued that
evidence shows that Salman was under the influence of liquor, rashly driving the vehicle without a licence with prior knowledge of the place
and also that it could harm others.
He cited several cases, including another high- profile hit-and-run case of industrialist Alistair Pereira and the Sanjeev Nanda hit-and-run case of 1999 in New Delhi.
